Coordinates: 64.90544, -146.45802
Game Management Unit: 20B
Land Manager: Department of Natural Resources (DNR); Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation

Description

The Chena River State Recreation Area (SRA) and surrounding areas are popular destinations for hunters harvesting moose, black and grizzly bears, caribou, wolves, furbearers, and waterfowl. Located north of Chena Hot Springs Road at MP 36.4, Chena River SRA's shooting range serves hunters and recreational shooters in the greater Fairbanks-North Star Borough with an appropriate setting to handle firearms.

Purpose

This project will directly address developments needed for the range to conform to current National Rifle Association (NRA) guidance for shooting ranges. These standards aim to improve safety while accommodating a broader range and greater number of users. They also address environmental considerations, providing a foundation for the sustainability of the range.

Additionally, the access road and parking area will be enhanced to improve public access, including an ADA compliant parking area. Driving surfaces will be hardened and improved drainage will help prevent the development of soft, muddy spots.
