Reporting Requirements

  • Successful Hunters
    • Within 5 days of kill, you must submit a completed permit report and the horns to ADF&G in Sitka, Douglas, Petersburg, or Ketchikan.
    • Specimens Required: Horns for measuring (must be attached to the skull plate)
  • Unsuccessful Hunters
    Within 15 days of the close of season, you must submit a completed permit report to ADF&G or report online at hunt.alaska.gov.
  • Internet Reporting
    If you hunted unsuccessfully or did not hunt, you may report online at http://hunt.alaska.gov

Hunting Conditions

ELIGIBILITY: Prior to hunting, you must complete the Mountain Goat Identification Quiz at quiz.adfg.alaska.gov (proof of completion must be carried in the field).

HUNT AREA: Unit 4, Baranof Island. Contact ADF&G in Sitka for current status of hunt zones.

SEASON DATES: August 1 - December 31.

LEGAL ANIMAL: One mountain goat, except the taking of nannies with kids is prohibited. Hunters are encouraged to target male goats. Careful preparation and observation are necessary to differentiate male goats from female goats.

PERMIT, LICENSE, LOCKING-TAG, TAG RECORD: Carry your signed RG150 permit and current hunting license. (Nonresidents: also carry your metal big game locking-tag for mountain goat, and the associated Big Game Tag Record.)

IF YOU KILL A MOUNTAIN GOAT:
--- You must immediately validate your permit by cutting out the month and date of harvest. (Nonresidents: before leaving the kill site you must also affix your metal locking-tag onto a part of the animal required to be salvaged.)
--- Within 5 days of kill, you must submit a completed permit report and present your goat horns (attached to skull cap) for age and sex identification to ADF&G in Sitka, Douglas, Ketchikan, or Petersburg.

IF YOU DO NOT KILL A MOUNTAIN GOAT, OR DID NOT HUNT: Within 15 days of the close of season, you must submit a completed permit report to ADF&G or report online at hunt.alaska.gov.

IF YOU FAIL TO REPORT AS REQUIRED: You will not be eligible to receive any permits the next regulatory year and you may face additional enforcement action.
