2023 Upper Cook Inlet East Side Set Net Salmon Fishery
Disaster Funding Allocated

On May 24, 2024, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce made a disaster determination for the 2023 Upper Cook Inlet East Side Set Net salmon fishery under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in response to a January 5, 2024, request from Governor Dunleavy. On June 10, 2026, NOAA Fisheries allocated $5.8 million to address losses to the affected management areas. The State of Alaska, in consultation with stakeholders and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, is currently drafting an initial spend plan. We anticipate the initial draft spend plan will be posted here, and released via e-mail and press release, for public comment in July 2026.

The most recent fishery disaster funding announcement can be found in the June 17, 2026 article (NOAA), and more information on NOAA disaster determinations can be found on the NOAA website Fishery Resource Disaster Determinations page.
