Charles Dickens' character Dolly Varden's dress style was the inspiration for an eponymous fabric pattern, which in turn inspired the name of the fish. She also evidently inspired a song. This sign, photographed by Bob Armstrong in Skagway, incorporates the cover of the sheet music for the song and shows the pink-spotted pattern.
