Kens Pond Cabin

The Division of Sport Fish, Boating and Angler Access Program manages six remote recreational public use cabins in the Tanana River drainage. The cabins are located 1 to 5 miles off the Alaska and Richardson Highways south, to southeast of Delta Junction. Five of the cabins are located on lakes stocked by ADF&G, while one cabin is located on a lake with wild stocks of northern pike, whitefish, and burbot. The cabins are mostly accessible year-round by ATV, airplane, bike, boat, foot, skis, snowmachine, horse or dog team. However, access may be difficult at times during freeze-up and break up. The George Lake cabin may be nearly inaccessible during these times. Users should prepare for backcountry travel and have emergency shelter available if they are unable to reach their cabin.

General Information: ADF&G cabins sleep four to six people and are equipped with plywood bunks, chairs or benches, a table, wood stove, broom and dustpan, shovel, smoke/carbon monoxide detector, fire extinguisher, outdoor fire ring, picnic table, and a nearby outhouse.

Cabin users should bring a sleeping bag and pad, food, cookware, dishes, utensils, cooking stove and fuel, matches, lighters, paper fire starters, first aid items, insect repellent, plastic trash bags, firewood (17 inches maximum length), Axe, flashlight, lantern, water or some way to purify water onsite, and 2 AA batteries for the smoke/carbon monoxide detector.

Alaska's variable year-round weather requires warm clothing. Recommended items include durable rain gear, cold weather gear, and good boots. Layering is a good way to be prepared for changing weather conditions. Be sure to bring clothing appropriate for the season. Backcountry weather forecasts are not provided by ADF&G. Snow can occur any time of the year in some parts of this region. Please call the National Weather Service for updates on current weather conditions.
