2020 Gulf of Alaska Pacific Cod Fishery
Disaster Relief Applications Open
On January 21, 2022, the U.S. Secretary of Commerce made a disaster determination for the 2020 Alaska Gulf of Alaska Pacific Cod Fishery under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act in response to a March 8, 2021, request from Governor Dunleavy. On May 6, 2022, NOAA Fisheries allocated $17,772,540 to address losses to the affected management areas. The State of Alaska, in consultation with stakeholders and NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, drafted a spend plan and forwarded the plan to Pacific States Marine Fisheries Commission (PSMFC), the administrator of the federal grant for the disaster funds.
PSMFC opened the application period for vessel owners, permit holders, processors and tenders on March 13, 2025. Notifications with a weblink to the application portal, unique 8-digit ID, and more information were mailed to eligible participants. Applications must be submitted through PSMFCs online portal using your unique ID by June 13, 2025. The captain and crew member application period has not yet opened but will be announced shortly.
