Issued June 24, 2014

Regulation Reminders

• Symphony Lake is closed to fishing May 1 – June 30.
• Eagle River is closed to king salmon fishing.
• The Personal use hooligan fishery is now closed.

Fresh waters

Salmon

• In Ship Creek, fishermen are catching good numbers of kings during both the incoming and out-going tides. Although the out-going tide has often been more productive than the incoming. Fishermen are having good success with both lures and cured salmon eggs. Anglers are catching fish, but you must be patient.
• The youth fishery on Campbell Creek opens this coming Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29. This is the only time a section of Campbell Creek is open to fishing for king salmon. Anglers 15 years old or younger are allowed to fish for king salmon from the Old Seward Highway downstream to Dimond Boulevard. Kids that catch a king salmon must record their catch on their harvest record card. Please see regulations regarding this fishery before heading out.
• A reminder that any fish hooked other than in the mouth must be immediately released.
• All other waters in the Anchorage Management Area are closed to king salmon fishing.

Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic Grayling

Creek Fishing

• Campbell Creek, Chester Creek, and portions of Ship Creek are now open to trout fishing. Campbell Creek and Chester Creek have both been stocked with rainbow trout. Ship Creek is not stocked with rainbow trout. Fishing should be good.
• Ship Creek, from 100 feet above the Chugach Power Dam to Reeve Blvd Bridge, is open to catch and release rainbow trout fishing only. No retention of rainbow trout/ steelhead trout is allowed.

Lake Fishing

• All local lakes have been stocked, except Lower Fire Lake. Rainbow trout fishing is good to very good in these lakes.
• Anglers have been reporting better success early in the morning or later in the evening. During these periods the fish are more actively feeding although fish are still being caught throughout the day also.
• Fishermen have been doing well from the shore but many fishermen are increasing their catches by getting away from the easily accessible parts of the lake by either using a canoe or float tube. If you do go out in a boat make sure to be safe and wear a life jacket.
• Many insects are starting to hatch and anglers have reported success using dry flies to entice the bite. But anglers are also doing well with meal worms and single eggs below a bobber.
• Symphony Lake opens for fishing July 1st.

Northern Pike

• Late evening or early morning hours are a good time to spear, or to shoot pike with bow and arrow. A reminder, if you are bow-hunting for pike, the arrow has to be attached to a string and the string to your bow.
• Practice your bow hunting and spearing skills for pike at Lower Fire Lake and Otter Lake.
