Emergency Order Currently in Effect
• None
Fresh waters
Campbell, Bird, and Chester (including Westchester Lagoon) Drainages
• These drainages are closed to fishing and any fishing in these streams right now is illegal.
Salmon
• The water conditions are very good right now on Ship Creek, and king salmon fishing has been very promising. Fishermen have been reporting higher catch rates on the outgoing tides, but a few fish are still being caught on the incoming tide. This is the best early king salmon fishing on Ship Creek we have had in years, and it will get better as the month progresses.
• The Ship Creek Slam’n Salmon Derby Starts at Ship Creek Friday June 13th. If you would like your catch to be entered into the derby, buy your derby ticket before you fish.
• Expect very, very slow king salmon fishing in Eagle River.
• All other waters in the Anchorage Management Area are closed to king salmon fishing.
Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic Grayling
• All of Campbell Creek, Chester Creek, and portions of Ship Creek are currently closed to fishing to protect spawning rainbow trout.
• These closures include Westchester and East Chester Lagoon which is part of the Chester Creek Drainage
Lake Fishing
• All local lakes have been stocked.
• Rainbow trout fishing is good to very good in local stocked lakes.
Northern Pike
• Northern pike will be moving into shallow, weedy areas at night to spawn. Late evening hours are a good time to spear them, or to shoot them with bow and arrow. A reminder, if you are bow-hunting for pike, the arrow has to be attached to a string and the string to your bow.
• Practice your bow hunting and spearing skills for pike at Lower Fire Lake and Otter Lake.
Salt waters
Hooligan
• Hooligan fishing at the end of Turnagain Arm picked up this past weekend, but it is still not great.
• All anglers must now be fishing in the Twentymile River, or other fresh water to be legal.
• Open season for hooligan in salt waters is April 1–May 31; in fresh waters, it is April 1–June 15. There is no bag or possession limit for personal use smelt, and no permit is required. Hooligan may be taken by dip net in any fresh or salt water.
• For your safety, and for the safety of others, please park well off the highway. Do not trespass on the railroad tracks or the railroad right-of-way. Please be respectful and take all your trash with you, don’t throw it on the ground. Please do not trash the dipnetting site.
• For more information on hooligan dipnetting and hooligan dipnetting regulations, see Page 13 of the 2013 Southcentral Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations summary booklets.
