Stocked Lakes
Fishing in Anchorage-area stocked lakes has been good with some lakes proving to be better producers. Reports indicate that Taku-Campbell Lake has been a good spot to go. There are a lot of coho fry in the lake right now, so if it’s non-stop action you’re after, Taku-Campbell would be a good bet.

Fishing at Sand Lake is good. The early morning bite between 8 and 11 a.m. is best. Find a spot in about 15 to 16 feet of water (about 100 yards straight off the dock behind Sand Lake Elementary) and fish cured salmon eggs on the bottom for the best action. Fish are being caught in as little as six feet of water. Strikes are often subtle as fish seem to be lightly tapping the bait. It is expected that the strikes will become more aggressive as the month goes on.

Fishing at Jewel Lake has slowed. There is a considerable amount of irony in this due to the fact that ADF&G stocked over 4,000 catchable sized chinook in Jewel about a month ago. Fishing in the popular locations, such as off the dock along Dimond, has not been as good as expected. Try the northern end of the lake near the marsh area.

Want blackfish? Hit DeLong Lake. One of the ADF&G sport fish staffers fished DeLong the other day and in a matter of minutes iced around 10 blackfish using cured shrimp. He was fishing about 15 to 20 feet off the dock, suspending the bait roughly four to five meet under the ice. He was also targeting larger fish in 16 feet of water just past the weed-line. While he marked several fish on his flasher, the fish proved to be a bit skittish.
