Saltwater Fishing
Marine effort picked up this last week with the nice weather and the start of the cruise ship season. King salmon catches have been positive for this early in the season and also a few halibut have been reported as well.

Anglers are reminded that there have been several news releases issued regarding king salmon limits for the region and the Ketchikan area. These can be accessed by the links on this page.

Marine anglers are reminded that the lingcod season does not open until May 16th.

Freshwater Fishing
Anglers chasing steelhead will still find good numbers with most systems nearing peak timing. Roadside anglers should try Ward Creek for steelhead, or if remote fishing is on your agenda, give the Naha River, Mcdonald Lake, or Fish Creek a try.

Cutthroat and Rainbow trout fishing will also continue to improve with lakes now being ice free and water temperatures on the rise.

Dolly Varden fishing along the roadside/shoreline should continue to improve as water temps continue to increase and fish migrate out to saltwater from overwintering lakes. Lake outlets and streams that connect to the salt water are prime places to harvest these fish in the spring.

***Reminder
All anglers are responsible for knowing the current regulations for the area that they will be fishing. Regulation handbooks and copies of the most current regulatory changes are available on this website and at the Ketchikan ADF&G office, (907) 225-2859.
