* Just a reminder to all our anglers, please do your part to help slow the spread of Covid-19 by following and reviewing the current State of Alaska Health Mandates in effect. This includes practicing social distancing while sport and personal use fishing and wearing a face covering when fishing and if you are needing fishing supplies from your local store as indicated in Health Alert 010.
Freshwaters
Steelhead Trout
Steelhead fishing is winding down. Most fish have spawned and have exited the Situk River. A few fish still remain in the lower river however.
King Salmon
King salmon fishing in the Situk River is Closed.
Red Salmon
Red fishing has picked up over the past week. A decent push of fish built up and passed the weir recently. Fishing has been decent below the weir down to the Lower Landing with the majority if fish holding there. Fishing is slower upstream of the weir with a few thousand fish spread out throughout the rest of the river now. The sockeye run is still tracking to be a low run unless it is late. Staff will continue to monitor the run and determine if any inseason management actions need to occur.
Saltwaters
King Salmon
Sport fishing for king salmon is open in Yakutat Area marine waters. Sport fishing continues to be good for king salmon, but is slowing down slightly over the past week or so. Anglers are having success in Yakutat Bay trolling green label herring behind flashers. Hot spots include Ocean Cape, The Pinnacles, Redfield Cove, Knight Island and Broken Oar Cove.
Halibut
The halibut fishing continues to be very good. Large fish are being brought in daily. Fishing has been the best out front at the entrance to Yakutat Bay near Ocean Cape, but also inside Yakutat Bay. Fishing should continue to improve over the course of the summer. Soaking salted herring, octopus or pink salmon works the best.
Lingcod
Lingcod fishing has picked up some. Try using rubber tube jigs over pinnacles.
Rockfish
Fishing for rockfish has been good. Lots of black rockfish have been caught over pinnacles and reefs during the last week. Try using metal jigs or mooching herring.
