King Salmon

Marine catch rates for king salmon have started to decline from the peak of the season during early-mid June. King salmon can still be found in local waters and retuning king salmon destined for Crystal Lake Hatchery are being intercepted in the waters of Wrangell Narrows and Blind Slough. An emergency order is in effect through July 31st liberalizing king salmon regulations in the Wrangell Narrows-Blind Slough terminal harvest area. Please see the link to emergency orders at the bottom of this page for more information.

Coho Salmon

Coho salmon are just beginning to be intercepted in marine fisheries. Catch rates will likely continue to improve throughout July as coho migrate towards spawning grounds.

Other Salmon

Pink, chum, and sockeye salmon can be intercepted in the marine fisheries this time of year as these fish are also heading for their spawning grounds.

Halibut

Halibut catch rates have been strong for this time of year and are expected to remain strong throughout the remainder of the summer as Halibut migrate back into local areas from offshore locations.

Trout, Dolly Varden and Grayling

Opportunities to fish for rainbow and cutthroat trout, Dolly Varden and Grayling can be great throughout the summer season and into the fall. Fishing for Dolly Varden in freshwater and at the confluence of fresh and salt water will increase as these fish enter freshwater in the coming weeks. Anglers are reminded that bait is prohibited in freshwaters except during the fall bait window of September 15-November 15. There are some exceptions to this rule as some area lakes allow bait to be used year round and bait can be used in Blind Slough only between June 1st and November 15th.
