Winter Fishing Report: For the Northern Kenai Peninsula Area
Date: 1-1 through 1-15

Regulation Reminders
• Emergency Orders are in effect for the following areas:

• In Stormy Lake: The retention of Arctic char/Dolly Varden and use of five lines while fishing through the ice is prohibited thru the 2013-2014 winter fishery as part of an effort to restore the native fish.

• Remember to purchase your new 2014 sport fishing license.

Stocked Lakes
• Stocked Lakes in this area are producing great catches. The ice thickness is sufficient to support foot traffic.
• Numerous lakes support game fish which are not stocked. Please contact the department office in Soldotna for more information.

• Fishing for rainbow trout at Scout Lake near Sterling has been outstanding. Arctic grayling have also been caught.
• Sport Lake near Soldotna offers easy access for the entire family. Catch rates at Sport Lake are very high for both land-locked salmon and rainbow trout.

Hot Spot
• Scout Lake
• Bait fished under a bobber and small ice-flies or jigging spoons with bait fished just under the ice well above the bottom of the lake have been producing the best catches.

Fish Facts:
• Not including lakes that are stocked, there are a total of 212 lakes on the Kenai Peninsula that have been surveyed by Fish and Game that support game fish such as rainbow trout, lake trout and Dolly Varden. Many lakes are accessible from the road and you are likely to encounter few, if any, other anglers out on the ice.
