The Division of Sport Fish is changing terms associated with news and informational documents

(Juneau) – News and information documents issued by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will no longer be issued as a “News Release” and will now be issued as either an “Advisory Announcement” or a “Press Release”. The transition in terms for Division of Sport Fish documents is effective immediately, the Division of Commercial Fisheries converted to the new format in fall 2019.

The Division of Sport Fish issues over 100 news documents statewide each year. These news-related documents are intended to inform the public about inseason changes in sport fish regulations such as fishery liberalizations or restrictions, or to inform the public about events and other news-worthy items.

Inseason management actions to fisheries across the state are mandated through an emergency order, which is a legal document detailing the change in regulation. Information outlined in emergency orders will now be noticed to the public as Advisory Announcements, rather than in a News Release. The term emergency order will remain. The Division of Sport Fish often issues news about events and other items not pertaining to an inseason change in regulation. These documents will now be issued as a Press Release as opposed to a News Release.

“This change will allow the Division of Sport Fish to standardize its communications in a manner that is consistent with all state agencies and other divisions at the Alaska Department of Fish & Game,” Tom Taube, the Deputy Director of the Division of Sport Fish, said.

Those who are interested in receiving Advisory Announcements, Press Releases or fishing reports from the Division of Sport Fish can subscribe to receive email notifications through GovDelivery for specific areas here: https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/AKDFG/subscriber/new. The change in terms will be reflected in GovDelivery on Tuesday, March 10. Division of Sport Fish staff will continue working to make these changes in terms in various locations on its website.
