Saltery Cove Drainage Sockeye Salmon Bag and Possession Limit Increased

(Kodiak) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is increasing the sport fishing bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon in the Saltery Cove drainage to 10 fish. This emergency order is effective beginning 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, July 19, 2017.

The biological escapement goal for early run sockeye salmon into the Saltery Cove drainage is 15,000 to 35,000 fish. As of July 16, 2017, the weir count was 15,477 sockeye salmon. Based on historical run timing, the spawning escapement is projected to exceed the escapement goal for this stock. To provide additional sport harvest opportunity for sockeye salmon in the Saltery Cove drainage, the bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon is increased to 10 fish.
