King Salmon Sport Fishery Opens Below Situk Weir

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced today that effective 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, July 22, 2020, the Situk River king salmon sport fishery will open to the retention of king salmon as follows:

King salmon (downstream of the Situk weir):

  • 1 fish per day greater than 20”/1 fish in possession.
  • 10 fish per day less than 20”/10 fish in possession.

King Salmon (upstream of the Situk weir):

  • Closed to fishing for king salmon.
  • King salmon may not be retained upstream of the Situk River weir; king salmon may not be possessed or retained and may not be removed from the water and must be released immediately.

As of July 19, more than 1,000 king salmon have been counted through the Situk River Weir. The escapement goal for king salmon on the Situk River is 450-1,050 fish. Opening the king salmon fishery downstream of the weir will increase harvest opportunity for sport anglers and will not put achievement of the king salmon escapement in jeopardy.
