Alagnak, Naknek, Nushagak-Mulchatna, and Wood River Drainages Sockeye Salmon Sport Fishing Limits Increased

(Dillingham) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is increasing the bag and possession limits for sockeye salmon to ten fish in all waters of the Alagnak, Naknek, Nushagak-Mulchatna, and Wood River drainages effective 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 11 through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2020. The bag and possession limits for other salmon species remain the same unless otherwise altered through prior or future emergency orders. These limits are in combination with the more liberal limits for sockeye salmon.

The escapement of sockeye salmon in these drainages has exceeded the lower end of the respective escapement goals and are projected to exceed the upper end in all cases where a goal range is used. Therefore, it is warranted to increase the bag and possession limits for sockeye salmon in these sport fisheries.

“This year’s sockeye run is doing very well for the Alagnak, Naknek, Nushagak, and Wood drainages,” stated Area Management Biologist Lee Borden. “With escapement goals being met in these drainages we are increasing sockeye salmon harvest opportunity in the sport fisheries”.
