(Anchorage) – Winter is a great time to get your kids out fishing for the first time! Do you want to learn about the best family-friendly fishing spots in Anchorage and the Mat-Su? Join Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) staff at the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery (WJHSFH) on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a “Take Your Kids Fishing” seminar. This seminar will be held in the WJHSFH conference room, located at 941 North Reeve Boulevard, Anchorage, Alaska.
This is a free event for anyone interested in learning about which local spots provide the best amenities and opportunities for family fishing in both the summer and winter. This seminar will prepare you to take your kids out ice fishing this winter for trout and other stocked species, and in the summer for salmon and other species. Aside from learning which spots to go, you’ll learn about which gear to use and how to use it, as well as, how to target specific species using different tackle and bait.
Advanced registration is required and space is limited, so sign up early! To register, please visit Hunting and Fishing Forum webpage.
Children are welcome- they need not be registered. Childcare will not be provided, but a coloring and crafting station will be available for our young attendees!
For those anglers who are interested in fishing but aren’t quite ready to commit to the required fishing equipment, ADF&G offers a free rod loaner program throughout the year. During the winter, anglers can borrow ice fishing rods, manual ice augers, buckets, and scoops. For more information, please contact the Anchorage Sport Fish Information Center at (907) 267-2218
