ADF&G Offers a Set Line for Burbot Seminar

(Anchorage) – Are you interested in set lining for burbot but don’t know how to start? Maybe you’re looking to sharpen your skills and find some new fishing spots in the Susitna River Drainage? Join Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) staff at the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery (WJHSFH) on Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for a burbot set lining seminar. This seminar will be held in the WJHSFH conference room, located at 941 North Reeve Boulevard, Anchorage.

This is a free event for all anglers who are interested in learning about the biology of burbot, set lining opportunities in the Susitna River Drainage, and the different methods and gear needed to successfully set line for burbot. Although this seminar is specifically geared toward set lining spots in the Susitna River Drainage, this information can be used in other areas of the state where set lining for burbot is permitted. ADF&G staff will also be available to discuss burbot fishing regulations.

Advanced registration is required and space is limited, so sign up early! To register please contact the Anchorage Sport Fish Information Center at (907) 267-2218.

For those anglers who are interested in fishing but aren’t quite ready to commit to the required fishing equipment, the ADF&G offices in Anchorage and Palmer offer a free Rod Loaner Program throughout the year. During the winter, anglers can borrow ice fishing rods, manual ice augers, buckets, and scoops. For more information, please contact the Anchorage Office at (907) 267-2218 or the Palmer Office at (907) 746-6300.
