REMINDER OF THE 2015 KING SALMON SPORT FISHING REGULATIONS FOR HAINES AND SKAGWAY AREA MARINE WATERS

The Haines and Skagway area king salmon regulations that were announced April 6, 2015 are still in effect. The Haines and Skagway area regulations are as follows:

In the waters of District 15 (see attached map):

• From April 15, 2015 through July 15, 2015, the waters of Chilkat Inlet north of Seduction Point are closed to king salmon sport fishing, and

• From April 15, 2015 through December 31, 2015, the bag and possession limit is one king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length.

Chilkat River king salmon production has been poor in recent years, and the 2015 projected escapement is less than the lower end of the Chilkat River goal range. Sport, commercial, and subsistence fisheries in Chilkat Inlet and Chilkat River are being restricted to reduce the harvest of Chilkat River king salmon.

Anglers are reminded that the regional regulations announced April 30th apply in the marine waters of Southeast Alaska outside of District 15 unless superseded by Emergency Order. The regional bag limits, set under the Southeast Alaska King Salmon Management Plan for years when abundance of Pacific Salmon Treaty king salmon stocks is high, are not appropriate in areas where local king salmon stocks are in a period of low productivity. Therefore, the king salmon bag and possession limit has been reduced to one fish in District 15.
