The following are ice thicknesses on a few local lakes.
Lake ice will continue to form, but slowly, due to the snow cover now on the ice. Always use extreme caution when traversing ice. Remember that ice will be thinnest over flowing water, inlet and outlet areas, deeper areas, and areas of upwelling. The following measurements are only accurate in the areas in which they were taken. Previously mentioned conditions are a possibility on all of these lakes, so waiting for thicker ice before venturing out may be a good idea.
Quartz Lake 4 inches - 75 feet out from boat ramp
Birch Lake 3 inches - 75 feet out from boat ramp
Lost Lake 6 inches - 75 feet out from boat ramp
Chena Lake 6 inches - 75 feet out from boat ramp
Cushman Lake 6 inches - 75 feet out from canoe access
Harding Lake - still about 95% open water
