Freshwater Fishing
- The Anchor River, Deep Creek, and the Ninilchik River are closed to all sport fishing through July 15. Please refer to the emergency orders below for more information.
- The Bridge Creek Reservoir has good fishing for Dolly Varden. A small boat provides access to the best fishing, but you catch fish from shore as well. Try small spinners or flies.
Saltwater Fishing
Halibut
- Halibut fishing continues to be really good for June with a good number of big fish being caught.
- Tides will be moderate by this weekend, so drifting or anchoring up will work.
- Herring on a circle hook is the most popular bait; however, octopus, salmon heads, and jigs also work well.
King Salmon
- Fishing picked up at the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon on the Homer Spit with more fish entering the lagoon on the large tides. A variety of methods and tackle have been working, including eggs under a bobber, herring, mackerel, and fishing at various stages of the tide inside and outside the lagoon. Try casting spinners to the school of fish circling the lagoon during slack low.
- Fishing also improved in the Seldovia. Try fishing at the start of the lagoon at high tide for the best chance of catching a king salmon.
- Trolling for king salmon fishing was once again spotty with both poor and fair fishing to be had. Anglers were finding fish scattered throughout Kachemak Bay from Bluff Point to Point Adam.
- Most anglers use downriggers and fish with troll sized herring or spoons behind flashers.
Other Saltwater Fishing
- Surf fishing has provided anglers consistent early fishing in Cook Inlet for a variety of fish. Anglers are catching halibut, flounder, and some sharks. Most popular locations have been Clam Gulch, Whiskey Gulch, and the tip of the Homer Spit.
- Sockeye salmon may be beginning to show up near Tutka Bay Lagoon and China Poot Bay.
- Many anglers have been picking up Pacific cod while trolling for king salmon or fishing for halibut.
