Freshwater Fishing

• The Anchor River, Deep Creek, and the Ninilchik River will be closed to sport fishing through July 15. Please refer to the emergency orders below for more info.
• The Bridge Creek Reservoir has good fishing for Dolly Varden. A small boat provides access to the best fishing, but you catch fish from shore as well. Try small spinners or flies.

Saltwater Fishing

Halibut

• Halibut fishing continues to be really good for June with good numbers of big fish being caught.
• This week has a really large tidal exchange so focus on fishing around slack tide for the most effective fishing.
• Herring on a circle hook is the most popular bait; however, octopus, salmon heads, and jigs also work well.

King Salmon

• Trolling for king salmon fishing was poor to fair last week. Anglers were finding fish scattered throughout Kachemak Bay from Bluff Point to Point Adam.
• Most anglers use downriggers and fish with troll-sized herring or spoons behind flashers.
• Fishing remains slow at Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon on the Homer Spit. Hopefully, the larger tides will bring in more fish. Try soaking eggs under a bobber or casting spinners.
• Fishing improved over the weekend in the Seldovia but is still slow. Try fishing at the start of the lagoon at high tide for the best chance of catching one of the few king salmon.

Other Saltwater Fishing

• There are good minus tides for razor clamming in west Cook Inlet this week. Charters are available in the Ninilchik area for boat access to the Polly Creek and Crescent River Bar areas. Good numbers of medium to large clams can be found in both locations.
  • EAST side beaches are CLOSED to ALL CLAMMING. See the emergency orders below for more info.
• Surf fishing has provided anglers consistent early fishing in Cook Inlet for a variety of fish. Most popular locations have been Clam Gulch, Whiskey Gulch, and the tip of the Homer Spit.

Emergency Orders

Please review the emergency orders and advisory announcements below in their entirety before heading out on your next fishing trip.

• Emergency Order 2-KS-7-29-22 closed all sport fishing in the Ninilchik River from 12:01 a.m. Thursday, June 16 through 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2022.
• Emergency Order 2-KS-7-28-22 closed king salmon fishing north of Bluff Point in all Cook Inlet saltwaters from 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, June 15 through 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2022.
• Emergency Order 2-KS-7-24-22 closes the Anchor River and Deep Creek to all sport fishing effective 12:01 a.m. Saturday, June 11 through 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 15, 2022.
• Emergency Order 2-RCL-7-01-22 and 2-RCL-7-02-22 closed all EASTSIDE Cook Inlet beaches to clamming for all species from the mouth of the Kenai River to the southernmost tip of the Homer Spit in 2022.
