Freshwater Fishing

  • The Anchor River, Deep Creek, and the Ninilchik River will be closed to sport fishing through July 15. Please refer to the emergency orders below for more info.
  • The Bridge Creek Reservoir has good fishing for Dolly Varden. A small boat provides access to the best fishing, but you catch fish from shore as well. Try small spinners or flies.

Saltwater Fishing

Halibut

  • Halibut fishing continues to be really good for June with a good number of big fish being caught.
  • The tides are with moderate exchange this week which should provide plenty of time to keep bait soaking on the bottom without large weights.
  • Herring on a circle hook is the most popular bait; however, octopus, salmon heads, and jigs also work well.

King Salmon

  • Trolling for king salmon fishing has been slow but with some really good action when fish are found. Over the weekend, anglers found good numbers of kings at Bluff Point and slow fishing in most other locations from Bear Cove to Point Adam.
    • Remember the Cook Inlet salt waters north of Bluff Point are closed to all king salmon fishing. See the emergency order below for more info.
  • Most anglers use downriggers and fish with troll-sized herring or spoons behind flashers.
  • There’s a decent buildup of king salmon in the Dudiak Lagoon and it will open to snagging at noon on Wednesday, June 29. Please refer to the emergency order below for more info. Weighted treble hooks are the primary gear to use during this time.
  • Although there are still a few fresh fish arriving at the Seldovia slough, the fishing for king salmon is winding down fast. There will likely be some pink and chum salmon starting to arrive in small numbers.

Sockeye Salmon

  • China Poot opens to dipnetting on July 1. See page 15 of the 2022 Southcentral Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations Summary booklet for dipnet fishery regulations. Expect fair to good dipnetting for sockeye over the weekend.
  • Snagging in salt water is open year-round. Expect fair to good snagging for sockeye in the saltwaters of China Poot over the weekend. Snagging is often easiest as the tide is flooding and bringing new fish in.

Other Saltwater Fishing

  • There are good minus tides for razor clamming in west Cook Inlet this week. Charters are available in the Ninilchik area for boat access to the Polly Creek and Crescent River Bar areas. Good numbers of medium to large clams can be found in both locations.
    • East Cook Inlet beaches are closed to clamming. See the emergency orders below for more info.
