Freshwaters
Coho Salmon
Fishing for coho salmon in freshwaters is past its peak in the Yakutat area. However, there are still fish available in most streams as the runs taper off until late October. Weather and water levels will dictate how successful anglers can be.
Popular lures for coho include #5 spinners, spoons, jigs, and brightly colored flies.
Saltwaters
King Salmon
King salmon fishing is past its peak in the Yakutat area. Fall/winter catch rates should be low during this period but fish will still be present. Most anglers are trolling spoons or herring behind a flasher near the shoreline or around rocky structures. Try fishing in 40-70 feet of water while trolling your gear between 20-40 feet deep.
Coho Salmon
Coho salmon fishing is past its peak in the Yakutat area, and catch rates have declined over the last week. Most anglers are trolling spoons or herring behind a flasher near the shoreline or around rocky structures. Try fishing in 40-70 feet of water while trolling your gear between 20-40 feet deep. Mooching is also an effective method when a group of coho is found.
Halibut
Halibut fishing has been tough lately with the increased presence of storms moving through. Fishing success should continue to wane as fish move offshore and out to spawn during the winter months.
Lingcod
Lingcod fishing should be decent during the fall/winter months. Fish near rocky structures or pinnacles with lead/rubber jigs or herring for the best success.
Rockfish
Fishing for black rockfish tends to be good in the Yakutat area if you can get out where they are. Fish near rocky structures or pinnacles with small metal jigs/darts or mooch herring for the best success.
