* Just a reminder to all our anglers, please do your part to help slow the spread of Covid-19 by following and reviewing the current State of Alaska Health Mandates in effect. This includes practicing social distancing while sport and personal use fishing and wearing a face covering when fishing and if you are needing fishing supplies from your local store as indicated in Health Alert 010.
Water conditions are good for fishing and wading on the Situk River right now. Sockeye salmon are spread throughout the Situk River system, both above and below the weir, and present good fishing opportunities. Try drifting small flies or corkies and yarn with single octopus hooks with a weight about two feet above.
Sportfishing for king salmon is open in Yakutat area marine waters. Fishing over the last couple of weeks continues to be really slow. The weather has been good, but there still seems to be a lack of bait and fish inside the bay. A few anglers have had better success near Point Manby. Most anglers are trolling spoons or herring behind a flasher near the shoreline or around rocky structures. Try trolling your gear between 20-60 feet deep.
Halibut fishing has slowed some over the past week in Yakutat. Not many large fish have been reported caught, with smaller fish being the norm. The more favorable weather forecast should lead to better halibut fishing and it should only improve from this point forward as more fish move onshore.
Lingcod fishing is good right now. Fish near rocky structures or pinnacles with lead/rubber jigs or herring for the best success.
Fishing for black rockfish is excellent in the Yakutat area.
