Sport Fishing

Freshwater Fishing

All lakes in the area provide a great opportunity for fishing lake trout, burbot, Dolly Varden, and Arctic grayling from a boat or from shore. Go to big lakes like Lake Louise, or Paxson Lake along the road or hit the many smaller lakes in the area.

For area streams look to the deeper holes for some fish avoiding the heat of the day. Don’t let that water behind the boulders go untested with your favorite fly or lure either.

Nearly all stocked lakes have been stocked with rainbow trout.

For fishing options in the area consult our online publications, such as Sport Fishing Alaska Rivers and Lakes in the Upper Copper/Upper Susitna River Basin.

Salmon

There is sockeye in the Klutina! Numbers should be increasing daily, and fishing should be good to excellent within the next ten days. King salmon and sockeye salmon are in the Gulkana River! Same as with the Klutina River, numbers should be increasing daily. Be aware that the West Fork Gulkana and the Gulkana River downstream of the confluence of the West Fork are running muddy, which could hamper harvest success.
