Weekly Fishing Report
PERSONAL USE
Copper River Chitina Subdistrict is open through Sunday June 25th at 11:59 p.m. Expect an announcement this week concerning king salmon in the personal use dip net fishery. The sonar has been up and running for the last couple weeks. Fishing has been reported as moderate for the opener and subsequent days. The river is running high.
SOCKEYE SALMON Sockeye fishing in the Klutina River has started, and determined fishermen are able to land their limit. The fishing is expected to stay steady according to sonar counts!
LAKE TROUT
The larger lakes which include Lake Louise, Susitna, Tyone, Paxson, Summit and Crosswind Lakes are clear of ice. These larger lakes should continue to produce good catches of fish throughout the summer.
STOCKED LAKES
Catchable rainbow trout were stocked in several UCUS stocked lakes during the past two weeks. Try Old Road and Round lakes, off the Lake Louise Road. Two Mile, and Three Mile Lakes along the Edgerton Highway, and Pippin Lake or Squirrel Creek Pit on the Richardson Highway. For the best rainbow trout fishing head out the McCarthy Road to Strelna, Silver, and Sculpin lakes which offer the best opportunity to catch more and a possibility to catch larger fish. All three McCarthy Road lakes have walk in access only.
WILD ARCTIC GRAYLING
Arctic grayling can be found in most area streams. Spawning has already occurred so most grayling will be found in lakes and larger rivers. Most of the local streams offer a run of grayling for a short time as the fish head upstream to spawn. Many of the small lakes on the Lake Louise and Nabesna roads contain grayling populations. Long Lake and Jack Lake are good bets for grayling.
DOLLY VARDEN CHAR
Like grayling, Dolly Varden can be found in most area streams and lakes. The upper portions of Klutina River and the mouth of the lake can produce some very nice fish and are well worth the 20 miles of rough road to reach. Little Tonsina River is also a good choice for Dollies. Tiekel River has lots of small stunted Dolly Varden that can provide some fun fishing with light tackle. Also try the streams crossing the Nabesna Road for Dolly Varden.
