Regulation Reminders and Emergency Orders
Regulation Reminders
- Anglers are reminded to review Emergency Orders and News Releases and the 2018 Southwest Sport Fishing Regulations Summary booklet for the Bristol Bay Area before heading out on their next fishing trip.
Freshwater Fishing
King Salmon
- Sport fishing in the Naknek River drainage is currently reported as slow but is picking up and should improve further this week. Sport fishing is currently slow in the Alagnak but should be productive by next week.
- Sport fishing in the Nushagak River drainage is reported as very good.
- The sonar near Portage Creek has been operational since June 7 and a total of 32,298 king salmon have been counted by the sonar through June 20. This is approximately 3.5 days ahead of desired levels. Management will be in accordance with the Nushagak/Mulchatna King Salmon Management Plan.
- Anglers should call (907) 842-2427 for the latest counts and to check for inseason regulatory changes.
- In the Togiak River and nearby drainages it is still early for king salmon but fishing is currently reported as good.
Rainbow Trout, Dolly Varden, Arctic Grayling
- In the Naknek River drainage, fishing is reported as consistently good this week as rainbow trout and Dolly Varden continue to feed on out-migrating sockeye salmon smolt.
- In the Togiak River and nearby drainages fishing should be good to excellent.
- In the Wood River Lakes system fishing continues to be reported as good to excellent in larger tributaries of the lakes as well as at the outlets of larger tributaries.
Northern Pike
- In the Naknek and Alagnak River drainages fishing is reported as good.
- In the Wood River Lake system fish continue to be caught along lake and slough shores and in shallow weedy bays.
Saltwater Fishing
Halibut
- In the Nushagak Bay area fishing should be fair to good off the coast of Protection Point.
