Freshwater

  • Coho season is in full swing in Yakutat. Road system streams are continuing to see strong returns and good fishing conditions. Above average catches in local commercial fisheries also suggest good numbers of coho are returning to Yakutat streams.
  • Pink salmon are still returning to area streams and saltwater areas, and will likely be encountered by anglers targeting coho.
  • Anglers are reminded that fishing for king salmon in the Situk River remains closed.

Saltwater

  • Due to conservation concerns, the retention of king salmon is prohibited in all Southeast Alaska salt waters, including waters around Yakutat. This closure went into effect 12:01am, Thursday, August 10, 2017 and will continue until October 1st, 2017. All king salmon caught must be immediately released unharmed.
  • Coho catches in saltwater continue to be very good.
  • Halibut fishing remains strong in both inside and outside waters.

Regulation summaries and the most recent regulatory changes are available online and at the Yakutat ADF&G office, most local tackle and outdoor stores in Alaska.
