Yakutat – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game announced today that beginning July 24, the bag and possession limits for sockeye salmon on the Situk, Lost and Ahrnklin Rivers have been restored to three fish daily, six in possession.
The Situk River is managed for a escapement goal of 30,000 to 70,000 sockeye salmon, with a management target of 50,000 sockeye salmon. As of July 21, 2019, 42,780 sockeye salmon have been counted through the Situk River weir. Average run timing for Situk River sockeye salmon indicates that 20% of the run is still to come, and the management target will be reached. Restoring the sockeye salmon bag and possession limits to the background regulations will provide harvest opportunity for anglers without jeopardizing achievement of the escapement goal.
