(Homer) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is opening the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon and adjacent waters to snagging. The areas open to snagging include the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon and the waters from the Homer City Dock, near the entrance to the Homer Boat Harbor, northwest along the east side of the Homer Spit to an ADF&G marker located approximately 200 yards northwest of the entrance to the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon, and out 300 feet from the shore. The Homer Boat Harbor is excluded from this emergency order and snagging is not allowed in the Homer Boat Harbor. These provisions are effective 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11 through 11:59 p.m. Monday, December 31, 2018.
All other regulations remain in effect. This includes a bag and possession limit for salmon, except king salmon, of six per day which all six fish may be coho salmon.
“These waters are opened to snagging to provide anglers an opportunity to harvest the remainder of hatchery-reared coho salmon,” stated Area Management Biologist Carol Kerkvliet. “ADF&G would like to remind anglers that a harvested fish counts toward the bag limit of the person who originally hooked it.”
