North Gastineau Channel Saltwaters Reopening to Sport Fishing September 19, 2026

(Juneau) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish is announcing that saltwaters of north Gastineau Channel near the Macaulay Salmon Hatchery previously closed by emergency order will reopen to sport fishing effective 12:01 a.m., Saturday, September 19 through 11:59 p.m. Thursday, December 31. The daily bag and possession limit for coho salmon will be 6 of any size. The hatchery has secured enough coho salmon for broodstock needs making this sport fishing closure unnecessary.
