(Yakutat) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish announced today that beginning at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 26, sport fishing is open in the Situk River from department markers located 50 yards upstream of the Nine-Mile Bridge, downstream to department markers located 50 yards downstream of the bridge. Sport fishing for king salmon is allowed, but retention is prohibited.
The Alaska Board of Fisheries, at its Southeast and Yakutat Finfish and Shellfish meeting in February, adopted a regulation closing this section of the Situk River through August 15 or until 1,050 king salmon have passed the Situk River weir. This section of the Situk River will open to sport fishing prior to August 15 because over 1,050 large king salmon have passed the weir.
