Situk River Sockeye Salmon Limits Increased

(Yakutat) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is increasing the bag and possession limit for sockeye salmon in the Situk River to 6 fish per day and 12 fish in possession effective 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 4, 2025.

As of June 30, over 30,000 sockeye salmon have passed through the Situk River weir. The escapement goal for sockeye salmon on the Situk River is 30,000–70,000 fish. Typically, by this date approximately 28% of the sockeye run has passed the Situk River weir. Based on the current weir counts, sockeye salmon are projected to exceed the upper end of the escapement goal range. Increasing the sockeye salmon bag and possession limits will increase harvest opportunity for sport anglers and the escapement goal will still be achieved even with additional harvest from increased bag and possession limits.
