(Juneau) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish announced today that the waters of upper Taku Inlet will open to king salmon retention beginning June 15. All other king salmon conservation measures for the Juneau/Glacier Bay area, issued on April 1, 2025 (emergency order 1-KS-R-09-25) remain in effect.
In the waters adjacent to the Taku River: (Taku Inlet north of a line from Point Bishop to Point Greely) The existing regional king salmon bag, possession, and annual limits will be in effect within Upper Taku Inlet beginning 12:01 a.m. Sunday, June 15, 2025 through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2026:
Alaska Resident
- The resident bag and possession limit is one king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length;
- From October 1 through March 31, a resident sport fish angler may use two rods when fishing for king salmon, a person using two rods under this regulation may only retain salmon;
Nonresident
- The nonresident bag and possession limit is one king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length;
- The nonresident annual limit is one king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length;
- Immediately upon landing and retaining a king salmon a nonresident must enter the species, date and location on the back of their sport fishing license or on a nontransferable harvest record.
Inseason data for Taku River king salmon indicate that the escapement goal is likely to be achieved and prohibiting the retention of king salmon in the marine waters of upper Taku Inlet for the extended period through June 30 is no longer warranted. Therefore, the marine waters of upper Taku Inlet will open to king salmon retention on June 15, aligning with the date the remainder of the marine waters near Juneau (except Seymour Canal) will open to king salmon retention beginning on June 15.
