New Regulation for Prince William Sound Area Sport Fisheries in 2022

(Cordova) - The Alaska Board of Fisheries (BOF) adopted one proposal establishing a new sport fishing regulation for the Prince William Sound Management Area at the 2021 Prince William Sound/Upper Copper River and Upper Susitna Rivers Finfish and Shellfish (Except Shrimp) meeting held in Cordova, November 30 - December 6, 2021.

This regulation will take effect with the release of the 2022 Southcentral Alaska Sport Fishing Regulations Summary booklet when it is issued in March/April 2022. Please see the 2022 booklet for a complete summary of the Prince William Sound sport fisheries regulations.

All Prince William Sound Freshwaters

  • Established a bag and possession limit of two lake trout, any size, for the freshwaters of the Prince William Sound Management area.

Lake trout are only known to be in two lakes (Blueberry and Tokun) in the Prince William Sound Management Area. Blueberry Lake, near Valdez, was stocked with fingerling lake trout in 2020. Tokun Lake, located on the Copper River Delta, has a native population of lake trout. Tokun Lake is very remote and difficult to access.

To find a meeting summary of all board actions taken at the Prince William Sound Finfish and Shellfish meeting please check the Alaska BOF webpages.

Prince William Sound shrimp will be discussed at the Cook Inlet, Kodiak, Westward, Arctic Shellfish and Shellfish General Provisions, and Prince William Sound Shrimp Alaska BOF meeting in Anchorage on March 26 - April 2, 2022.
