Upper Station Sockeye Salmon Bag Limit Increased

(Kodiak) - To allow increased sport fishing opportunity for sockeye salmon, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is increasing the bag and possession limits for sockeye salmon to 10 fish in the South Olga Lakes drainage, more commonly known as Upper Station, effective 12:01 a.m. Wednesday, June 23 through 11:59 p.m. Friday, December 31, 2021.

"Even with increased harvest and sport fishing opportunities in the South Olga Lakes drainage it is almost certain that the biological escapement goal will be exceeded," stated Area Management Biologist Tyler Polum." The early sockeye salmon run in the drainage is stronger than it has been in some time and well above average. It's a good opportunity to allow additional harvest of sockeye salmon in the area."

ADF&G staff monitor this run at the Upper Station salmon counting weir and weir counts are posted on the ADF&G website daily.
