ADF&G to Host Second Annual “Spooky Tails” in Anchorage

(Anchorage) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game(ADF&G) Division of Sport Fish is hosting its Second Annual “Spooky Tails” Halloween festival and family fishing clinic on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Spooky Tails is taking place at the Ship Creek Fisheries Center in the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery (hatchery). The hatchery is located at 941 North Reeve Boulevard and will come alive with numerous activities that will appeal to all ages. Drawings for fishing equipment and other raffle prizes will occur throughout the event. You must be present to win.

“We had such a great time hosting this event last year,” stated Ship Creek Fisheries Center Supervisor Molly McCarthy-Cunfer. “We hope to see another great turnout this year. We are excited to encourage families to come to the hatchery, have some seasonal fun, and learn about fishing at the same time.”

Interactive activities include learning about hatchery operations, fishing skills, and our local fish species, to name a few. We will have live fish filleting demonstrations, fish dissections, macroinvertebrate investigations, fish-themed craft stations, spooky fish stories, and skills stations that will teach a multitude of outdoor skills. ADF&G staff will be available to teach the public about fish biology, invasive species, and what the hatchery does for anglers throughout many parts of Alaska. ADF&G will be joined by multiple partner organizations.

The event is free and open to the public. Costumes are encouraged but not necessary.
