Chatanika River Personal Use Whitefish Spear Fishery Permits Available August 15

Two-hundred and twenty-five household permits for the 2019 Chatanika River Personal Use Whitefish Spear Fishery will be issued on a first come, first served basis at the Fairbanks Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) office located at 1300 College Road, beginning 8:00 a.m. Thursday, August 15. These permits are not available online or at other ADF&G offices.

Only one permit will be issued per household. Permit applicants must be Alaska residents and have a valid resident sport fishing license. Whitefish can only be taken by spear in the Chatanika River drainage under personal use regulations with a personal use permit; the use of spears to take whitefish in the Chatanika River drainage under sport fishing regulations is prohibited. Whitefish can be taken by hook and line in the Chatanika River drainage under general sport fishing regulations.

Each household permit authorizes a harvest of 10 whitefish in that portion of the Chatanika River from the downstream side of the Elliott Highway Bridge to the Trans-Alaska Pipeline crossing (approximately seven river miles downriver from the bridge).

The 2019 Chatanika River Personal Use Whitefish Spear Fishery will be open from 12:01 a.m. September 12 through 11:59 p.m. October 14.
