Introduction to Dipnetting for Salmon

(Anchorage) – With summer upon us, it’s a good time for Alaska residents to start thinking about the personal use fishing opportunities available to help fill their freezers. Did you just become an Alaska residency after living in Alaska for 12 consecutive months, or have you had your residency, but been unsure if dipnetting is right for your family? If you answered yes, we encourage you to join us at our next Fishing Forum!

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish, is hosting an introduction to dipnetting seminar at the William Jack Hernandez Sport Fish Hatchery (WJHSFH) on Wednesday, July 10, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. This seminar will be held in the WJHSFH conference room, located at 941 North Reeve Boulevard, Anchorage.

ADF&G staff will discuss the gear you need to dipnet, as well as, the regulations, permits, common violations, and areas that you can dipnet for salmon around Southcentral Alaska.

This is a free event for all individuals. Advanced registration is required, and space is limited, so sign up early! To register, please visit the Hunting and Fishing Forum webpage.

For those anglers who are interested in fishing but aren’t quite ready to commit to the required sport fishing equipment, the ADF&G office in Anchorage and Palmer offer a free Rod Loaner Program throughout the year. We have a limited supply of fly fishing gear for new anglers to try as well! For more information, please contact the Anchorage Sport Fish Information Center at (907) 267-2218. No dipnets are available through the rod loaner program.
