BIOLOGIST APPOINTED TO OVERSEE CRITICAL SOUTHCENTRAL REGION FISHERIES STUDIES

Kristine Dunker has been appointed as a Research Fisheries Biologist III with the Division of Sport Fish in Anchorage.

Dunker oversees the Southcentral Region’s Kenai/Kasilof dipnet permit project, coordinates the Region’s aquatic nuisance species and stocked lakes assessment programs, and addresses other issues of regional importance.

During the past three years Dunker worked with the U.S. Geological Survey on a research program investigating freshwater fish community dynamics relative to hydrologic regimes and other habitat variables, including impacts of non-native fishes, in Everglades National Park, Florida.  Prior to this work, Dunker conducted research on native and non-native fish communities within restored and natural wetlands near the Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida.

“I am excited to have Kristine join the Sport Fish Region II research team.  She has lots of experience planning and conducting fish assessment research projects.  She is smart, dedicated, a hard-worker, and interacts great with people,” stated Jim Hasbrouck, Regional Research Coordinator for the Division.

Dunker, originally from Greenfield, Wisconsin, holds a Master of Science degree in environmental science from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida. She can be reached at (907) 267-2889 or by e-mail at Kristine_dunker@fishgame.state.ak.us
