KASILOF RIVER SPORT LIMITS INCREASED EFFECTIVE AUGUST 3.

At the Kasilof River, due to a strong return of sockeye salmon, an Emergency Order has been issued to increase the rod and reel sport limits for salmon (other than king salmon) 16 inches or longer from three per day and three in possession to six per day and twelve in possession, effective 12:01 a.m., Thursday, August 3. No more than two salmon per day and two in possession may be coho salmon.

Daily limits for salmon under the adult size of 16 inches remain at ten per day and ten in possession, in any combination. The fishing season for king salmon closed on Tuesday, August 1.

Snagging is not permitted.

The escapement of sockeye salmon into the Kasilof River is projected to exceed the upper end of the biological escapement goal, which is 150,000 - 250,000 fish. As of midnight, August 1, over 284,000 sockeye salmon have passed the Kasilof River sonar station. Therefore, it is warranted to increase the daily bag and possession limits for thee Kasilof River sockeye salmon sport fishery.
