LIBERALIZED DISTRICT 8 KING SALMON SPORT FISHING REGULATIONS TO END JULY 15, 2006

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is reminding sport anglers intending to fish in District 8 marine waters near Petersburg and Wrangell that the liberalized king salmon sport fishing regulations for District 8 will no longer be in effect as of July 16, 2006.

On July 16, 2006 king salmon sport fishing regulations in Sections 8-A and 8-B will revert to Southeast Alaska regional regulations. These changes will mark the end of liberalized sport fishing regulations that  have been in place from May 1 through July 15. The king salmon sport fishing regulations will be:

  • Anglers may sport fish with only one (1) line or rod per angler.
  • The bag and possession limit for king salmon will be:
    • Alaska residents – three king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length
    • Nonresidents - one king salmon, 28 inches or greater in length.
  • King salmon caught by non-residents will now count toward the nonresident annual limit of four (4) king salmon, and nonresident anglers are required to immediately record harvests in ink on the back of their license or harvest record.

Anyone needing further information concerning this announcement should contact the Division of Sport Fish office in Petersburg at (907) 772-5231.  For more information about the sport fisheries in Southeast Alaska, contact the nearest Southeast Alaska ADF&G office or visit: http://www.state.ak.us/adfg/sportf/region1/r1home.htm
