2006 FRESHWATER GUIDE LOGBOOKS ARE AVAILABLE

Logbooks for 2006 licensed freshwater sport fish guiding businesses are available for pickup at most ADF&G offices throughout Southeast and Southcentral Alaska, and in Fairbanks, Delta Junction, Dillingham, Bethel, and King Salmon.

Freshwater sport fish guiding businesses are required to maintain a logbook for all fishing trips during which they accompany clients who are fishing in fresh waters.  Logbook forms are to be filled out daily for each charter trip. New for 2006 is the requirement that logbook sheets must be returned to ADF&G on a weekly basis while there is activity. Logbook pages that cover inactive weeks do not have to be submitted.

The Department anticipates that, in the future, accurate information from logbooks may be relied upon to institute some form of limited access for some of the more popular and heavily fished locations that are managed by the state.  One critical step in any such decision would be accurate documentation of participation by the guided fishing industry in a fishery that might be considered for a moratorium, limited entry, or super-exclusive status.

Strict enforcement of logbook recording and noncompliance will be emphasized in 2006.

Logsheets with activity should be mailed to the Sport Fish Research and Technical Services Section, 333 Raspberry Road, Anchorage, Alaska  99518.
