Macaulay Hatchery Area Reopen for King Salmon Retention

(Juneau) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish announced that king salmon may now be retained within 300 yards of the wayside park fishing dock adjacent to Macaulay Hatchery. This area was previously closed on July 1, 2025 to protect king salmon broodstock returning to the hatchery. The hatchery now has enough king salmon to meet broodstock needs for 2025 and conservation measures are no longer needed.

Within the designated saltwater hatchery sport harvest area the following regulations will be in effect beginning 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, August 19 through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, August 31, 2025:

  • The daily bag and possession limit is four king salmon of any size.
  • King salmon harvested by nonresidents in the designated saltwater hatchery sport harvest area do not count toward their annual limit.
  • Snagging continues to be prohibited within 150 feet of the Channel Wayside Fishing Dock.
