(Palmer) – Effective 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, the Department of Fish and Game is increasing sport fishing bag and possession limits for sockeye salmon to six fish per day and in possession in the Larson Creek drainage within one-quarter mile of the confluence of Larson Creek with the Talkeetna River. Only the bag and possession limits for sockeye salmon has been increased. No more than three fish per day and in possession may be chum and coho salmon in combination. Pink salmon limits remain at six per day and six in possession. Sport fishing for salmon in Larson Creek upstream of an ADF&G marker located approximately one-quarter mile upstream of its confluence with the Talkeetna River remains closed.
The sustainable escapement goal (SEG) for sockeye salmon in Larson Creek is 15,000—35,000 fish. The weir count through August 11 is 24,552 fish and the projected escapement of 35,993 fish exceeds the SEG range. The increase in harvest as a result of this action will not reduce the escapement below the lower bound of the SEG range.
All other sport fish regulations for Unit 5 remain unchanged and are outlined on pages 28 and 29 of the Southcentral sport fishing regulation summary booklet. This includes the Larson Creek fishing area and the nighttime fishing closure from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. each day through August 15.
