King salmon regulations for Yakutat Area fresh waters (excluding the Situk River)

(Yakutat) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish announced king salmon regulations for the Yakutat area fresh waters (excluding the Situk River). The Yakutat management area encompasses all freshwaters between Cape Suckling to Cape Fairweather, and includes such rivers as the Kiklukh, Tsiu, Situk, Akwe, Italio, and East Alsek. The following regulations will be in effect beginning at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, May 1:

Resident:

  • Bag and possession limit is one king salmon, 20 inches or greater in length; no annual limit;

Nonresident:

  • The nonresident bag and possession limit is one king salmon, 20 inches or greater in length;

  • The nonresident annual limit is one king salmon, 20 inches or greater in length. Immediately upon landing and retaining a king salmon a nonresident must enter the species, date and location on either the back of their sport fishing license, a nontransferable harvest record or their digital harvest record

The Alaska Board of Fisheries, in its Southeast and Yakutat Finfish and Shellfish meeting in February, adopted a proposal to revise the nonresident annual limit for king salmon in Yakutat freshwaters. This action implements those changes to nonresident regulations for the 2025 season and continues the resident regulations without change.

The Situk River is closed to king salmon fishing, please see a separate advisory announcement for the Situk River.
