(Homer) - The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) is implementing the following sport fishing regulation by opening the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon and adjacent waters, excluding the Homer Boat Harbor, to snagging beginning 12:00 p.m. (noon) Thursday, July 4 through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2019. The area open to snagging includes the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon and the waters from the Homer City Dock (near the entrance to the Homer Boat Harbor) northwest along the east side of the Homer Spit to an ADF&G marker located approximately 200 yards northwest of the entrance to the Lagoon, and out 300 feet from the shore.
“ADF&G has the authority to open the Nick Dudiak Lagoon to snagging to allow anglers a greater opportunity to harvest the buildup of king salmon that are currently in the lagoon,” stated Area Management Biologist Mike Booz. “Fish are starting to blush but there are still some bright kings for anglers to harvest.”
All other regulations remain in effect. This includes the bag limit and possession limit of two king salmon of any size. Anglers are reminded there is an annual limit of five king salmon, 20 inches or longer, and after harvesting a king salmon, 20 inches or longer, the harvest must immediately be recorded in ink on the back of the sport fishing license or on a harvest record card (for those individuals with a permanent license (PID) or resident youth under the age of 18 or nonresident youth under that age of 16). A harvested fish counts toward the bag limit of the person who originally hooking it.
