SALMON LIMIT INCREASED ON DOG SALMON RIVER AND SALTRY COVE DRAINAGES

The limit for sockeye salmon in both the Dog Salmon River drainage and the Saltry Cove Drainage in the Kodiak Management Area is increased to 10 per day, 10 in possession beginning 12:01 a.m., Thursday, July 4. The increase is in effect for the remainder of the season.

The biological escapement goal for sockeye salmon in the Dog Salmon River drainage is 75,000 – 170,000 fish. As of June 30, the weir count for sockeye salmon through the Frazer Lake Fish Pass was nearly 48,000 fish. The department is now projecting the escapement will exceed 170,000.

The escapement goal for sockeye salmon into the Saltery River drainage is 15,000 to 35,000 fish. As of June 30, which is approximately 20% of the way through the run, the Saltery River weir count was greater than 10,000 sockeye. Based on historic run timing, the department is projecting the escapement goal will be exceeded.
